Macro

Macro is an extreme close-up.
I believe these links deserve a close-up 😉
- Challenges: You can still submit, vote and see results on Celine’s blog.
- Say it is so: Pixar is rumored to be working on Star Wars on Gizmodo!
- Say it ain’t so: I put yesterday a feed on PhotoStealers and am saddened to see that they have post everyday to report blatant theft and usually poor answers/explanations from the “alleged” thief.
- Pop-Photoshop: Guess that by now you have seen already this video clip where the singer is retouched “live”
- Are you smarter than a 5th grader?: This video answers the question “Can Video Games make you smart?”
- Hobbitown: Beautiful timelapse from the gorgeous New Zealand. Like the poet said, I believe I can fly!

I’ve been wanting to try macro photography for a long time, but I’m afraid I don’t have the right lenses. Do you recommend anyone in particular for a Canon camera?
Can’t imagine what you will do with macro…Not sure if I should tell you 😉
I’m using the EF 100mm f2.8USM from Canon (http://www.amazon.com/Canon-100mm-Macro-Lens-Cameras/dp/B00004XOM3/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1391093855&sr=8-1&keywords=100mm+macro+lens)
I also use time to time the EF180mm f3.5L from Canon (http://www.amazon.com/Canon-EF-180mm-USM-AutoFocus/dp/B00009XVBU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1391093932&sr=8-1&keywords=180mm+macro+lens)
The shot of the snow flake was made with the MPE-65 which is a magnificent lens, heavy with a manual focus 😉
I personally prefer the 100mm to the 180mm due to the crop factor.
Can’t wait to see you try macro and don’t hesitate if you have more questions
You are awesome Sebastien, thank you so much for this! I’m taking notes of your recommendations, I’ll try to save up some money to get one of these lenses and start experimenting with macro. The image is absolutely stunning btw! 🙂
Thank you.
I know that there is over the web some DIY tutorials to create a macro lens with 2 lenses (I think you put one in your camera and flip the other or something like that). Lensbaby has also some very affordable toys/lenses.
Finally there is still the option of used lenses.
Good luck
