Photoblog Challenges : Results #13

This week on Photoblogchallenges, the winners are Spectrum for Best of 45 (28 Oct – 03 Nov), Maboe for Theme 45 : Yellow Petals, Klaus Neuner for Technique 22 : People in B&W and Rue Du Lavoir for Monthly Project 10 : Fall. Congratulations!

Celine and I are permanent guest judges and since the middle of the year we switched the roles a little. She has to pick one favorite from the winning pictures and I have to pick several “non-winners”.

Each week I will try to shed some light on some of my choices.

• For Best of 45 (28 Oct – 03 Nov): I loved the cute birds from Vaido and the simplicity from Twiggy. I picked Mittened Hands for a very dynamic composition, Rue du Lavoir for a majestic paper lion rendition,  Shaker for a splendid light and a shell full of potential and promises and finally Tede for an acrobatic snail.

• For Theme 45 – Yellow Petals:  I picked Ben for a delicate yellow flower, Larans for inviting us to a such intimate moment of life and Vaido for an outstanding flower very well displayed.

• For Technique 22 – People in B&W :  I loved the joyfulness of the winning baby from Klaus Neuner. I picked the very focused in-action portrait from Deja and this intimate stolen moment from Rue Du Lavoir. Wish I could be able to capture such happiness.

• For Montly Project 10 – Fall: I picked Harmonie for a great range of fall colors and Shaker for the variety of his fall subjects

My pick of the week is Shaker for Best of 45 (28 Oct – 03 Nov). I really like the light in this shot and the details, but more than anything I like how this shot is a starting point for a bigger story. Is it high tide? Low Tide? Is the shell hiding or emerging?

Photoblog Challenges : Results #12

This week on Photoblogchallenges, the winners are Gumnut for Best of 44 (21 Oct – 27 Oct) and Deja for Theme 44 : Subjects of Phobias. Congratulations!

Each week I will try to shed some light on some of my choices.

• For Best of 44 (21 Oct – 27 Oct): I loved the majesty of Gumnut’s peacock and the stunning lights of Ben and Thorgun. I picked Harmonie for her beautiful feeling of autumn.

• For Theme 44 – Subjects of Phobias: I’d like to start by saying that I’m pretty scared about the pictures submitted for this, as it basically means that most of you were inches from these spiders and snakes and cockroach for instance. I really liked Monica as her spider seems to be dancing and Ben for a stinging shot but I picked in the end Larans that showed the Eiffel tower and reached me what acrophobia is in the same picture

My pick of the week is Remus for Best of 44 (21 Oct – 27 Oct). Not only is it a beautiful light painting shot but it’s a shot that celebrate Remus 9 years of photoblogging. 9 years is a really impressive number. Congratulations and many more to you Remus!

Photoblog Challenges : Results #9

This week on Photoblogchallenges, the winners are Spectrum for Best of 41 (30 Sep – 06 Oct), Boxman for Theme 41 : Straight lines, Deja for Technique 20 : Macro of metal and Larans is the big winner for the Monthly Project 09 : Photo Hunt . Congratulations to them!

Celine and I are permanent guest judges and since the middle of the year we switched the roles a little. She has to pick one favorite from the winning pictures and I have to pick several “non-winners”.

Each week I will try to shed some light on some of my choices.

• For Best of 41 (30 Sep – 06 Oct) : I picked Orchard for a very joyful portrait and Xerraire for a beautiful silhouette with great colors.
  

• For Theme 41 – Straight lines : I picked Deja, Remus for the vibrant red and beautiful light and Shaker for the dynamic composition and a great title.

• For Technique 20 – Macro of metal: I picked Ellebelle for the repetition and the great metallic feel, Love2b because I’m a sucker for rust and textures and Wanderungen for a picture full of symbolism.

• For Monthly Project 09 – Photo Hunt: This project was slightly different from others and I was able to pick freely one picture as my favorite in each of the 5 categories. I picked Twiggy for the apple category for a tasty shot full of textures, Larans for bridge for a stunning light and great composition, Love2b for red for a great light and a vibrant red, Shaker for street for a nifty effect and Day One for “any” for a picture with a lot of story behind.

My pick of the week is Deja for Theme 41 – Straight lines. I love the pattern and the abstract feeling of that shot.

Photoblog Challenges : Results #7

This week on Photoblogchallenges, the winners are  Wanderungen for Best of 39 (16 Sep – 22 Sep), Mittened Hands for Theme 39 : Night Photography and Larans for Technique 19 : Water Droplets.

Celine and I are permanent guest judges and since the middle of the year we switched the roles a little. She has to pick one favorite from the winning pictures and I have to pick several “non-winners”.

Each week I will try to shed some light on some of my choices.

• For Best of 39 (16 Sep – 22 Sep) : I picked Deja for a great composition and a very flashy electric color, Orchard for a very peaceful zen picture and Tapio for a great nostalgic shot full of history.
  

• For Theme 39 – Night Photography : I loved the tender picture from Mittened Hands and the magical sky from Vaido and am glad they were among the winners. I picked My Glass Eye and Thorgun for a beautiful reflection of a magical castle.

• For Technique 19 : Water Droplets : I loved that Larans was able to integrate a foreign object within the shot. I picked Red Rock for playing with the colors and the liquid and Twiggy for the cool optical effect well mastered.

My pick of the week is My Glass Eye for Theme 39 – Night Photography. I love the management of the colors and the lights trailing off. Since he joined us 3 weeks ago, Owen has put good submissions after good submissions. Really curious to see his next takes.

World Wide Photo Walk

I do apologize if you were looking for your weekly long exposure fix but it will come back next week.

Tomorrow, on Saturday 5th of October I will be part of the World Wide Photo Walk. It was created 6 years ago by Scott Kelby and it will be the first one I will attend. The idea is to meet up with fellow photographer and follow a leader in a specific area. I will go with Celine and Christine and we will take part of the Greenwood walk. We will spend most of our time in the Greenwood Cemetery that is an historic landmark.

I’m very curious to see how it all goes down but last time I went to a cemetery for pictures was on a whim in New Orleans with Celine. It is a very special atmosphere to say the least.

There is also a challenge component that is fascinating. You have the opportunity to post a picture to a pool and your group leader will submit the best submissions worldwide. Last years winner was Lars from Sweden. Lars is better known on Photoblogchallenges as Larans 😉

There are apparently still openings so don’t hesitate if you want to join. Just click this link to find a walk near you.

Photoblog Challenges : Results #6

This week on Photoblogchallenges, the winners are  Monica for Best of 38 (09 Sep – 15 Sep) and Christine for Theme 38 : Begins with “G”.

Celine and I are permanent guest judges and since the middle of the year we switched the roles a little. She has to pick one favorite from the winning pictures and I have to pick several “non-winners”.

Each week I will try to shed some light on some of my choices.

• For Best of 38 (09 Sep – 15 Sep) : I picked Joel Schilling for his great composite work, otherworldly, Larans for a great feeling of Autumn and making me discover what elderberries are and Steve Rice.
  

• For Theme 38 – Begins with “G” : I picked up Boxman for the contrast between the old city and the new and Rue Du Lavoir for making me salivating with his sweet picture.

I did hesitate a long time for my pick of the week due to the great submissions of Blendwerk  and My Glass Eye. I loved the curve work and the photorealism of these. I was also amazed by the rendering of Monica but I finally had to settle down for the submission of Steve Rice. Steve has been with Photoblog Challenges since the early days and I’m really jealous of the result he achieved with this weeks submission.

Photoblog Challenges : Results #4

This week on Photoblogchallenges, the winners are  Frances for Best of 36 (26 Aug – 01 Sep), Wanderungen for Theme 36 : People Working and Ellebelle for Monthly Project 08 : Summer.

Celine  and I are permanent guest judges and since the middle of the year we switched the roles a little. She has to pick one favorite from the winning pictures and I have to pick several “non-winners”.

Each week I will try to shed some light on some of my choices.

• For Best of 36 : Love the diversity in the winners this week with a lot of people trying different new things. I picked Leovi for another take on his long project, Remus for his powerful shot that brought back memories, Twiggy for her tender stolen portrait and Shaker for his great exotic architectural shot.
  

• For Theme 36 – People Working : This was a tough challenge but you came through. I picked Different Sensations for capturing what loneliness on the job look like, Larans for a very true view of the life in an garage, Twiggy for an exotic cooking lesson full of textures and Ruimnm for another look on the security job.

• For Monthly Project 08 – Summer : The days are getting colder but we were still able to appreciate your view of summer. I picked Larans and Thorgun for their view of the big North. Looks like they had  a lot of fun under the sun. There is a feel of coldness with gorgeous like on both. I picked Twiggy for her work in depth on the summer flowers.

My pick of the week among the winners was the submission for Best of 36 by Wanderungen. I couldn’t leave this look and had the feeling to be very close to this cow with a lot of personality.
